Killing the Sunnah?

ٱتَّبِعُواْ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ أَوۡلِيَآءَ‌ۗ

“Follow the revelation given unto you from your Lord, and follow not any awliyaa, other than Him.

Little it is ye remember of admonition”

 

(Quran 7:3)

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings ofAllah be upon him) said:

وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَمُحْدَثَاتِ الْأُمُورِ فَإِنَّ كُلَّ مُحْدَثَةٍ بِدْعَةٌ وَكُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ

“Beware of newly invented matters (in religion) for verily every invented matter is bida’h and every bid’ah is deviation.”

(Abu Dawood 3991)

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Know that there is nothing that will bring you closer to Paradise except that which I have enjoined upon you, and there is nothing that will take you closer to the Hell-fire except that which I have forbidden you from.”

[Musnad Imam Shafi’ee]

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

 

‘Nothing remains that brings you closer to Paradise or takes you further away from the Hell-fire except that it has been explained to you’.”

Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood said,

“Follow and do not innovate, for you have been given that which is sufficient and

every innovation is misguidance.”

Reported by Abu Khaithamah in Kitaab Ul-‘Ilm (no. 540)

 

Abdullah Ibn Abbaas said,

“When “Bid’ah” is created then the Sunnah dies and this continues until that “Bid’ah” is living

and the Sunnah is dead.”

 

Al-‘Irbaad ibn Saariyah,  reports that the Prophet said,

“…. I have left you upon clear guidance. Its night is like its day. No one deviates from it after me except that he is destroyed.”

Reported by Ahmad, Ibn Maajah (no. 43) and al-Haakim.

Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:

 

 

“Every innovation is misguidance even if people regard it to be something good.”
